"Eudia helps us take contracting out of the heads of his most critical legal leaders, freeing them to focus on higher-value work across the business. So, the rest of our team is no longer forced to choose between speed and comprehensiveness, or leave the business waiting."
Gary Hood
Chief Legal Officer
The Old Rule
Knowledge Held Hostage
Contract data lived siloed in PDFs, emails, and SharePoint—Duracell’s own institutional knowledge held hostage by its format. Finding their precedent position on indemnity meant 40 billable hours to review documents they'd already paid to review three times before. Institutional memory was tribal; prior positions and pricing terms were hard to find; and the legacy law hourly model kept creeping up with little change in delivery—same Word templates, same review process, just 10% more expensive each year.
Legal was forced to choose between speed and comprehensiveness while the business waited. Duracell rejected that trade-off.
The Ah-Ha Moment
From Weeks to Minutes
Duracell combined two moves. First, they embedded a Contracting MIND to help run day-to-day contracting redlines, negotiation support, progression to signature, and escalation paths—on a predictable, fixed-fee basis. Second, they turned static contracting history into a custom contract insights solution, extracting pricing, rebate, and margin-relevant clauses across legacy documents and linking them to Sales/Finance data. Now Legal could answer margin and posture questions before negotiations, highlight renegotiation targets, and keep the cycle moving—without defaulting to outside counsel.
Adoption accelerated because the program was funded by re-allocating outside-counsel dollars (not a new tech line) and because the team could retrieve their own data in minutes, not weeks.
The New Belief
Fewer Trade-offs and Visible Impact
Legal’s value is measured in outcomes at business speed. With Eudia's AI-Augmented Contracting solution handling contract execution and the custom contract insights solution converting history into posture, Duracell operates as a strategic signal generator: consistent redlines, clause benchmarks, and decision-ready insights on pricing, rebates, and risk that Sales and Finance can act on immediately. Judgment stays human where it matters; repetitive tasks are automated; and every matter feeds playbooks and decision memory, so each new agreement makes the next faster and smarter.
The result: fewer trade-offs, tighter alignment with the business, and visible commercial impact—managed contracting that pays for itself because it powers insights across the portfolio.
The Future
AI-Native Contracting
Duracell is scaling the model across business units without adding headcount. The secondee remains the front-line engine for contracting while outputs feed a durable, searchable Company Brain. The contract insights solution expands into broader commercial levers (rebates, escalators, leakage), giving the enterprise forward-looking posture—not just historical review. Performance stays transparent through SLAs/KPIs, and the budget story shifts from variable hourly spend to predictable fixed fees. Starting with contracts created a low-risk on-ramp; now the capability compounds.
